Day 2 of Ramadan – Strengthening Your Connection with the Qur’an

Date: 2 March 2025

Introduction

As you settle into the rhythms of Ramadan, the second day is an opportunity to deepen your relationship with the Qur’an. Known as the month of the Qur’an (Shahr al-Qur’an), Ramadan encourages Muslims to reconnect with Allah’s words through recitation, reflection, and application in daily life.

1. Why the Qur’an is Central to Ramadan

The Qur’an was revealed during Ramadan, making this month the perfect time to immerse yourself in its teachings:

“The month of Ramadan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.”
(Qur’an 2:185)

By focusing on the Qur’an, you can strengthen your faith, find answers to life’s questions, and draw closer to Allah.

2. Practical Ways to Engage with the Qur’an

A. Recitation

  • Set Daily Goals: Plan to recite a certain number of pages or surahs each day to complete the Qur’an by the end of Ramadan.
  • Improve Tajweed: Dedicate time to perfecting your recitation with proper pronunciation.

B. Reflection

  • Read translations and tafsir (exegesis) to understand the meaning of the verses.
  • Reflect on how the teachings apply to your life and strengthen your relationship with Allah.

C. Memorisation

  • Start with shorter surahs, such as Surah Al-Ikhlas or Surah Al-Falaq.
  • Review previously memorised surahs to keep them fresh in your memory.

3. Incorporating the Qur’an Into Your Day

  • Morning Reflection: Read a few verses after Fajr to begin your day with Allah’s words.
  • Evening Study: Dedicate time after Maghrib or taraweeh for deeper reflection.
  • Family Qur’an Time: Gather as a family to recite and discuss verses together.

4. The Rewards of Connecting with the Qur’an

Every letter recited from the Qur’an is rewarded tenfold:

“Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a tenfold reward.”
(Sunan al-Tirmidhi)

The Qur’an also intercedes for believers on the Day of Judgment, making its recitation even more significant during Ramadan.

Conclusion

The Qur’an is a divine guide and source of peace for every Muslim. On this second day of Ramadan, commit to building a daily habit of Qur’anic engagement—whether through recitation, reflection, or memorisation—and let its light illuminate your path.
