Tariq AzizDate: 21 March 2025
Introduction
The last ten days of Ramadan mark the most spiritually significant period of the month, culminating in Laylat al-Qadr (The Night of Decree). As we enter the 21st day of Ramadan, it’s time to intensify worship and prepare to seek Allah’s mercy and forgiveness during these blessed nights. This blog provides practical tips to help you maximise the final countdown to Laylat al-Qadr.
1. Why the Last Ten Days Are Special
A. Divine Mercy and Forgiveness
The last ten days are a time when Allah’s mercy and forgiveness are abundant. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“Whoever stands in prayer on the Night of Decree out of faith and seeking reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim)
B. Laylat al-Qadr
This night, which falls on one of the odd nights of the last ten days, is better than a thousand months, offering unmatched rewards for worship and dua.
2. Key Practices for the Last Ten Days
A. Increase Night Prayers
- Dedicate time to Qiyam al-Layl (night prayers), including Tahajjud.
- Pray with sincerity and focus, seeking Allah’s forgiveness and blessings.
B. Make Dua Consistently
- Include the special dua for Laylat al-Qadr:
“O Allah, You are Most Forgiving and love forgiveness, so forgive me.”
(Sunan al-Tirmidhi) - Create a list of personal duas, including prayers for guidance, forgiveness, and blessings.
C. Recite and Reflect on the Qur’an
- Dedicate time to recitation, reflection, and memorisation.
- Focus on verses about Allah’s mercy and the rewards of patience and faith.
D. Give Charity Nightly
- Donate to trusted charities or sponsor iftar meals.
- By giving consistently, you ensure that your acts of kindness align with Laylat al-Qadr.
3. Preparing for I'tikaf
I'tikaf is a Sunnah practice where one devotes time to worship in seclusion during the last ten days of Ramadan.
- What to Do During I'tikaf: Focus on salah, Qur’anic recitation, dua, and dhikr.
- Practical Preparation: Arrange for a quiet space at home or in the mosque, free of distractions.
4. Staying Consistent Throughout the Ten Nights
- Alternate between acts of worship, such as praying, reciting Qur’an, and making dua, to stay engaged.
- Avoid distractions like unnecessary socialising or excessive screen time.
Conclusion
The last ten nights of Ramadan are a precious opportunity to seek Allah’s mercy and earn unimaginable rewards. On this 21st day, let’s commit to preparing for Laylat al-Qadr with intention, sincerity, and determination, ensuring that we make the most of these sacred nights.
